AAA Birthday Design Team
I’m very excited to announce I am joining the Design Team at AAA Birthday Challenge. I still can’t quite believe I was selected and they have an amazing team of designers to give you inspiration for each monthly challenge. There is still time to play along with the June Challenge “Use Water Colours”.
This months challenge is Using Watercolours so I had a play with some metallic watercolours and Inktense Pencils which you can use like watercolours.

Excited to be guest designing for the fabulous Uniquely Creative Stamp company and having a play with the Sloth Pals Stamp Mini Kit that was released recently. Decided to pull out my Prismacolor Coloured Pencils for this card.
Images
- The stamp set is Sloth Pals. I stamped them on paper suitable for using coloured pencils using Versafine Onyx Black ink. Cut out with matching dies.
Prismacolor colours used: Scarlet Lake/Crimson Lake, Orange/Poppy Red, Deco Yellow/Canary Yelloe, Yellow Chartreuse/Apple Green/Olive Green, Light Cerulean Blue/True Blue, Violet Blue/Ultramarine, Parma Violet/Lilac
Background
- Dry embossed the natural cardstock with the Sprinkles stencil (included in the mini kit).
- I left the stencil in place and spread Heavy Gel Gloss medium over the stencil with a spatula. This is a white gel that drys transparent so it gives a subtle background to keep the focus on the coloured images.
Other items
- I cut down some Uniquely Creative patterned paper for the banner and applied a strip of green foil tape at the bottom.
- Using some of the same patterned paper behind the background layer of the card unifies the colour scheme.

Smile…it’s your birthday
Still playing with the Sloth Pals Stamp Mini Kit from Uniquely Creative but this time using copics. I added the Wreath Builder Elements stamp set also from Uniquely Creative.
Images
- The stamp set is Sloth Pals. I stamped them on cardstock suitable for copics using Momento Rich Cocoa. It’s a gorgeous brown, one of my favourites. Images cut out with the matching dies.
Copic colours used: W0, W1, W3, W5, E00, E11, E23, E33, E57, E59
Background
- Using Distress Oxide Lucky Clover and Cracked Pistachio I blended the colours in a circle.
- I laid out the sloth images so I knew roughly where I wanted to stamp the leaves from the Wreath Builder Elements stamp set. I used Altenew Crisp Dye Ink in Just Green for the leaves.
- The berry images were stamped in Versamark Ink and embossed with Zing Rouge embossing powder.
- With the sloths laid temporarily in their final position, I selected a circle die that was just smaller than the outer edge of the blended green background. Holding the die in place I drew random lines and dots around the edge with a Red Glitter Kaisercraft Gel Pen.
Tip: As Distress Oxide Inks don’t dry instantly I needed to check that the embossing powder was only going to stick to the stamped images and not to the rest of the background. To check if it’s dry sprinkle some embossing ink over the cardstock and tap off. If it sticks to the background it’s not dry enough yet.
Sentiment
- The Sloth Pals Mini Kit comes with four laser cut words. I stamped on top of the word with Versamark Ink and heat embossed with Zing Metallic Copper Embossing Powder. I did this twice to give a thicker and smoother finish.
- I love to place a stamped sentiment in an interesting position so using my Mini Misti I curved the Happy Birthday around the edge of the circle. It is stamped in Altenew Velvet ink.

Herd of … Farm Animals?
Masculine cards are always tricky for me…how much sparkle to add? I did manage to incorporate a little bit of glitter paper so that was a win!
Images and sentiments
- I used images from Katzelkraft Farm Animals and coloured them with Copics. I know sheep aren’t blue and chickens aren’t green but hey they look good!
- Lawn Fawn Reveal Wheel Speech Bubbles are die cut out of glitter paper and coloured cardstock.
- Sentiments are from the Reveal Wheel and Spring sentiment sets.
Other items
- I used the Lawn Fawn Stitched Hillside Popup with Grassy Hills add on cut out of grass themed patterned paper.
- The front of the card was simply Distress Inks blended over My Favorite Things Clouds and Grass stencils.

Love…Happy…Yay
YAY…I’m HAPPY in LOVE with this one layer card. This is my second card I’ll be entering in the current AAA Birthday Card Challenge. I decided to leave “BIRTHDAY” off the front of the card so this could be used for celebrations other than birthdays. Just add the occasion sentiment on the inside of the card.
Images and Background
- The stamp set is Party Pals from Avery Elle. I stamped them on Copic friendly cardstock as I knew I particularly wanted to colour a background.
- The words are coloured using 2-3 colours but I left the stars just one colour.
- I ruled the lines with a copic friendly thin black marker and used the Warm Greys from the copic range to add depth to the background panelling.
- I also used the Neutral greys to add drop shadows behind the words and the stars.
Other items
- I used some brads to imitate the banner being attached to the wall. I’ve had them for ages and they happened to match my colour scheme perfectly.
- To finish off I added Glossy Accents to the words to give an extra bit of dimension (see photos below).

Ready for another box card? This time I used Uniquely Creative Stamps and Dies and Crafters Choice Minerals patterned paper.
Images
- All the images are from Uniquely Creative stamp set – Dino Pals and are coloured with copic markers. Cut out with matching dies. I particularly love how the dies cut the lava as well as the volcano.
Other items
- Box Card template is Lawn Fawn Scalloped Box Card Pop Up. I cut the front panel down slightly so I could layer the inserts with more depth. This makes the images easier to see
- Tag for writing message on (see very last photo) made with the Mama Elephant Tags Alot and Lawn Fawn Stitched Gift Card Pocket.
Sentiment
- Front sentiment – hand cut tag, stamped sentiment from Uniquely Creative Block Outline Sentiments in Versamark and heat embossed with Hero Arts White embossing powder.
- Back Sentiments – Die cut speech bubbles with Uniquely Creative Selfie Frames Dies and stamped with the sentiments from the Dino Pals set and heat embossed.

Aloha…ready for a party?
Box cards are a great way to use up patterened paper, expecially those gorgeous double sided paper pads. I’ll be entering this card in the current AAA Birthday Card Challenge.
Images
- All the images are from Avery Elle stamp sets – Tropics, Tweet Tweet and Market Stand.
- The leaves and flowers are stamped with Altenew Inks, a little bit of copic colouring and Nuvo Crystal Drops in White for the centres of the flowers. All the other images are copic coloured.
- The overlay for the front of the Tiki Bar is a Kaisercraft Texture Woven die, coloured with copics and cut down to fit.
Other items
- Patterned paper is from DCWV Tropicana.
- Box Card template is Lawn Fawn Scalloped Box Card Pop Up.
- Tag for writing message on (see very last photo) made with the Mama Elephant Tags Alot and Lawn Fawn Stitched Gift Card Pocket.
- Highlights to images drawn with Signo Gel Pen in White.
Sentiment
- Die cut tags out of patterned paper and translucent vellum with Sizzix Triplits Banner dies, stamp sentiment in Versafine Claire Nocturne, layered and stapled to font.

SOSS Ombre Challenge – Guest Designer
I’m thrilled to be a guest designer for the Sisterhood of Snarky Stampers latest Challenge #130 – Ombre. How many Ombre elements can I fit on one card? At least four as it turns out.
Images
- Stamped Altenew Layered Cupcake images onto Neenah Solar White cardstock. As there are 2-3 layers for each part of the image I used Altenew Green Meadows, Cherry Blossom and Coffee Break mini ink cubes – Ombre element 1.
- Diecut with matching die.
Other items
- Ink blend the three lightest Cherry Blossom inks over three pieces of Strathmore Bristol Smooth Cardstock (super easy to blend on) – Ombre element 2.
- Using Concord & 9th Bags and Tags die set, diecut edge of each of the pieces of cardstock.
- Cut down to size for your card base.
Sentiment
- Stamp out the banner and sentiment using Concord & 9th Here’s the Scoop stamp set.
- The pole for the banners is the straw stamp in the same set and watercoloured using the same Altenew Inks listed in Image section. Perfect to add Ombre element – Ombre element 3.
Background
- Ink blend Distress Oxide Ink Tea Dye over Strathmore Bristol Smooth cardstock.
- Using the circle stamps in the Layered Cupcake stamp set randomly stamp over background in the Coffee Break ink cube colours to create an ombre look – Ombre element 4.
FINISHING
- Using ATG adhere background to card base.
- Adhere pink tablecloth cardstock in layers with foam tape.
- Adhere cupcakes and banners with foam tape to add dimension (see closeup above).
- Using darkest of the pink inks ink blend around the bottom edge of the card base.
