A Novel Birthday…

Welcome to my blog today.  I have a birthday card with the main image by Stamping Bella Uptown Girl ‘Betty loves Books‘.  Stamping Bella images are great to colour, not too much detail that you get overwhelmed but enough to do a bit of simple blending with copics to give dimension to the dress.

Novel Birthday-1-6

I stamped, coloured and diecut a vase of flowers from My Favorte Things ‘Our Story’ stamp set to replace the apple that was in the original image…the recipient of this card doesn’t like fruit!!!  I also coloured and cut out the book again and popped it up with thin foam adhesive.

The sentiment was also from ‘Our Story’ and I placed it vertically to echo the feel of the stacks of books and those lovely long legs of Betty.

I always struggle with backgrounds.  I wanted something subtle but also a little bit special and knew this could be achieved with Ranger Perfect Pearls.  I first stamped the background using My Favorite Things ‘Denim’ stamp with the sticky ink that comes with the Perfect Pearls (you can also use Versamark).  I then dusted the Perfect Pearls over the top, brushed the excess off and misted it lightly with water to set the Perfect Pearls.

The final step was to apply some clear Wink of Stella to the book and vase, Nuvo Crystal Drops to the flowers and some glossy accents to the glasses…so cute!

Hope you enjoyed this card.

Challenge yourself

Hi Everyone.  Just a quick post today to enter this card into three challenges.

The hearts from My Favorite Things ‘All Heart’ were stamped in Versamark Ink, heated embossed with Zing Red Glitter powder, cut out with matching die and popped up on craft foam.  I then masked off the square on the black cardstock and applied Hero Arts Pigment Ink in ‘Unicorn’ over a Faber Castell diamond stencil.  The sentiment, also from My Favorite Things ‘All Heart’ was embossed in Hero Arts white powder, as was the line from Concord and 9th ‘Stripe Builder’ stamp set.  The most challenging thing about this card was taking the photo…who knew how tricky it is to take a photo of black cardstock!!!

I’ll be linking this card up with the following three challenges:

Pink, Green & White…

I’ve had a really busy last week and haven’t done much cardmaking so decided to use a card challenge to kickstart myself again!

swatch451

I wanted to use some of my Memory Box floral dies and this colour scheme screams flowers. The Memory Box dies are great because you can use the outline alone, the outline and internal shapes together or just the internal shapes.

Pink Green and White-1-7

I first swiped Ranger Distress Inks in ‘Spun Sugar’ and ‘Picked Raspberry’ over card stock so I could die cut the flowers out.  I decided not to use the stem portion of the die and simply cut that off.  The dots in the centres of the flowers are Nuvo Crystal Drops in ‘Apple Green’.  The sentiment, from the My Favorite Things ‘Label Love’ is stamped in Altenew Crisp Dye Ink ‘Parrot’.

Pink Green and White-1-3

I decided to make a couple more cards with the same colour scheme but a different die from Memory Box – ‘Budding Peony’ and using Nuvo Embellishment Mousse ‘Citrus Green’, ‘Peony Pink’ and ‘Pink Flambe’ instead of Distress Inks, to add a bit of shimmer.

The sentiments are from Paper Smooches and Altenew and I decided to play with the placement a bit as I had seen a fabulous card by May Park of Mayholic Design using the sentiment as the stem.

Hope you enjoy them.

Fall in Love…

Just a quick card post today.  As it’s the middle of winter here in the Southern Hemisphere I found the Color Throwdown challenge colours would be perfect for this card.

colorthrowdownswatch450

Fall in love-1I had found the perfect wintery image in my stash of Unity Stamp Company Kit of the Month Sept 2016 ‘Moments between Moments‘.  I stamped it in the three colours of the challenge in Distress Ink first and then used my water brush to soften and spread the colours.  The white was the card base.  As I had used my MISTI to stamp the image and had left the stamp in place, once I was happy with the colours I placed the card back into my MISTI and restamped with Versafine Onyx Black.  I deepened some of the shading with watered down distress ink then stamped the sentiment in Versamark and heat embossed with Zing Metallic Blue.

And that’s it…☺.

New technique – window card

Hi there

I tried out a new technique today that was inspired by a card I saw on Instagram made by Cards by Christine.  I decided on an ocean theme and I wanted to use some Create a Smile stamps and a new set of Ocean wave dies from My Favorite Things.

Oceanfun-1-2

Oceanfun-1

It came together reasonably quickly apart from a couple of false starts with the image colouring.  I also applied Wink of Stella clear shimmer to the two narwhols (haven’t worked out how to photograph shimmer yet).  The two back layers of the waves and the mama (or papa) narwhol are behind the clear window with the baby and front panel adhered to the front.

Oceanfun-1-3

The senitment is from Avery Elle “Bubbles”  and I heat embossed it 3 times in Zing Embossing Powder colour “Wave” (appropriately named aye!) to give a bit of extra dimension.

The clouds from My Favorite Things are ink blended on the inside of the card in Tim Holtz Distress Ink “Salty Ocean” (again.. appropriate colour name!).

This card could be used for a overseas trip, new baby or birthday.

Thanks for stopping by.
